Payment’s traffic is like electricity: standard commodity but at the same time underestimated product base

Payment transaction products and value-added services such as digital identities will merge into holistic solutions in the future.  Currently, payments, no matter if a card-, account- CBDC-transaction is used, are often seen as a hygiene factor. However, technology is changing their strategic importance. In the future, it will be about nothing less than maintaining the customer interface independently of the chosen payment instrument. Whether point-of-sale, eCommerce or P2P: almost every customer interaction ideally ends with a payment transaction. State-of-the-art payment solutions no longer have to be only regulatory compliant, practical and secure, but also differentiate themselves through value-added services such as loyalty or lending, run as far as possible in the background and can be processed in real time. Driven by competition and regulation, margins in payment traffic are under pressure. The scaling of corresponding solutions is therefore necessary for future success.
The resulting data flows are a valuable asset and, with the right strategy, become the basis for data-driven business models and promote up- and cross-selling potential. The (financial) industry is therefore required to use technological developments such as RTP, DLT, instant payments, alias services and open banking to create customer-friendly use cases. The necessary expertise, a holistic market view and the initiation of cooperations are critical for success. Thanks to a wide range of national and international references along the entire value chain, CORE has in-depth expert knowledge and supports clients from conception to implementation.
